Where do resumes disappear?

Inspired by a linkеdin post about how HR and recruiters react to being sent resumes at not always comfortable times.

It's like a battle: candidates complain that they are ignored, recruiters complain that the resumes they receive are not the right ones, written in the wrong way, do not match the requirements, etc.

Where do resumes disappear?

I will write my personal experience, it's not an axiom, everyone has their own story.

I have my own target audience, it's true. I work with executive level candidates. My specialty is agriculture (production, processing, trading, equipment, etc.). That's my valuable expertise, I sell it and get paid for it!

But I am not in the employment business. My work is search project based.

What does this mean to the candidate? That I will absolutely open every resume that hits my inbox or messenger. Even if the candidate is from another industry. I will definitely write a "thank you" to each candidate. However I'll get to know personally those who could potentially get into the pool of candidates for a current or future project. Perhaps I will recommend the candidate to another recruiter.

Personal conversation or an interview in this case is an extension of the network, it is not a guarantee that I will find the candidate a job. I never guarantee that. However, some people see it that way. They start reminding me over and over again, like "how's it going? What's up? What's the progress in promoting me?"

Face to face meetings just "to talk or to get and advice" should be of mutual value. Recently there was an interesting webinar from facancy, where a colleague said: I will meet if the candidate will transfer a certain amount to charity and with a check come to me. That's right, because the colleague is selling his expertise and valuable time. We all have 24 hours per day: we work, we are parents, we have so many things to do.

Career counseling is a market service that has its own cost and performance criteria. If a candidate needs to understand "where they are" relative to the market, compensation levels, trends, etc., it's career counseling. It's serious work, it's learned, it costs money. It is not just "to talk".

The recruiter doesn't charge the candidate as part of doing a specific search, the company pays for that.

Executive level candidates absolutely understand that.

Rudeness in any case is unacceptable on either side. There is a business space, it needs to be respected.
